June 15, 2018. Age 79. Beloved daughter of the late Ralph (Edith) Slaven; loving sister of Terry (Christine) Slaven of Phoenix, AZ and the late Neil Slaven and Joan (William) Speca; dear aunt of Sharon Pierce, Michael Speca, Laura Wade, Cathy Slaven Patterson, Gail Slaven Lankford, Michael Slaven, William Slaven, and Joseph Slaven. No prior visitation. A Memorial Service at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst where Mary was a member will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy at https://support.nature.org/site/donationto?15001.donation=form1&df_id=15001&resultid=7HV Mary attended St. Benedict's School, Amherst Central High School, the University at Buffalo, and Arizona State University where she earned her Master's degree in Social Work. Mary cared for and about others. She had a curious mind and was enthusiastic about new places and experiences, whether hiking in the high desert or sampling new Mexican foods.
