Cynthia Cumming (1967)

August 29, 1968 at Roswell Park Memorial Institute after a year long illness.  He had played every game in three sports on Amherst teams prior to the onset of a bone disease in his senior year.

Christine Chiarmonte (Sanford) (1967)

I vividly remember the day I was at my locker and I heard this low singing in the hallway. I stuck my head out and it was Tommy, wheeling himself down the hallway minding his own business and sounded like he was in good spirits.  We had never really spoken (he was WAY out of my league) but that day I said, "Nice song". He laughed and we both went on our seperate ways. A true hero. I think the first person I knew who had cancer.
