Sheila Carroll (Cooprider) - Class Of 1960

Obituary for Sheila Carroll Cooprider

The Reverend Sheila Carroll Cooprider went peacefully to her Lord on February 8, 2012.

Sheila was born May 14, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, to Kenneth Frederic Carroll and Jean Bradley. She graduated from Amherst Central High School, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sweet Briar College, Virginia, in 1964, and was awarded a Master of Divinity from Aquinas Institute of Theology, St. Louis, Missouri, on May 2, 1992. She married Charles Cooprider in York, Pennsylvania, on December 26, 1964.

After rearing two wonderful daughters, she felt called to holy orders. She was ordained a Vocational Deacon by the Right Reverend Donald Hultstrand on December 1, 1989. Sheila soon realized her true calling was the priesthood, and after graduating from seminary and completing a second process, was ordained Priest by the Right Reverend Hays Rockwell on April 27, 1994. Among her ministries she served as Rector, St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church, Eastpointe, Michigan; and Assistant Rector, Christ Church, Spotsylvania, Virginia, until her retirement in 2009.

Sheila loved music and traveling, especially to family gatherings and with her sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charles (Chuck), and two daughters, Kathryn and LeaAnn. Kathryn and Roger Gass, gave us three active grandsons, Aidan, Evan and Kellan. LeaAnn and Geoff Ziebold blessed with Logan and Maya. She leaves her traveling companions, sisters Kathryn, Ann and Patricia, brother, Kenneth (Rick) and their families.

A celebration of Sheila's life with us will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1303 South Bross Lane, Longmont, Colorado, on February 25 at 3:00 PM.
