Janet Breu (Weatherall) - Class Of 1949

Janet Fe' Breu Weatherall died December 4, 2018, in her home in Santa Maria. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Thomas Quentin Weatherall, and her parents, Nathaniel and Catherine Breu.

Born on January 29, 1932, in Buffalo, Janet is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, June and Ron Evans of Columbus, Ohio, and nieces and nephews; Gail Evans-Hervey, Margaret Evans, Gary Evans, James L. (Larry) Weatherall, Jr., Sharon Weatherall Galey, Karen Weatherall Guerrero, and Jason Dean Weatherall.

An independent and adventurous young woman, on the day after graduating college, Janet Breu boarded a train with two friends, on the way to teaching positions in Whittier, CA, fulfilling her vow to “never spend another winter in Buffalo.”

She married Tom in April, 1956. They settled in Covina, CA, where she taught kindergarten, and Tom worked as an engineer for KRLA, the top radio station in California at the time.

After Tom's retirement, they moved to Santa Maria. They loved the shore and enjoyed many trips in their RV, including two extensive tours of the USA.

Janet was talented and artistic. She wrote poetry, loved good books, good music, and good conversation. She appreciated fashion, culture, and politics. She was a member of the Association of University Women, the Sierra Club, Humane Society, and gave charitable donations throughout her life benefitting animals and the environment.

She lives on through the special ornaments she gave to her nieces and nephews as children, which are cherished and displayed to this day.
