Peter C Alway - Class Of 1959

Peter C. Alway

By

“Oh Peter! We will miss the way you always made us laugh!”

Peter Charles Alway gently passed away in his home in Suisun City on Dec. 4, 2017, after a long illness. His loving wife, Donna (Miller) Alway, commemorated their life of 50 years together by dedicating him “from my arms to God’s arms.”

Peter’s life began in Buffalo, New York, in 1941, the oldest son of Harold and Lew Alway. Peter graduated from Amherst High School, followed by enlisting in the U.S. Navy at age 17, where he trained as a corpsman. His tour of duty included a deployment aboard the USS Currituck during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, Peter continued to work in the medical field at E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital in Buffalo. In 1967, he married Donna Lynn Miller (Grand Island, New York) and continued his education at the University of Buffalo, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduating in 1971. At that point, he returned to duty as a commissioned officer in the Navy Nurse Corps, stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital. After two years service, Peter went to work for Allergan Pharmaceuticals in Connecticut, where Peter’s first son, Philip, was born. The family moved back to Buffalo for a brief period where son Garrett was born and then onto California. Peter’s professional career in sales ended and he returned to the nursing field in various mental health facilities throughout Solano County, including being on staff at Solano County Jail.

Peter was active with his boys in Boy Scouts in Pack 92 and Troop 272. He always enjoyed camping and fishing and watching his grandchildren grow.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; brother, Paul R. (Madeline) Alway; sons and families, Philip P. (Tiffany) Alway DPM, Garrett P. Alway and Jeannie Falcon of Eureka, California; stepson, John Summers of Victor, New York; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A ceremony honoring Peter’s military service was held in November by Sutter Hospice staff and was enjoyed by Peter, immediate family and friends. A family and friends memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2017, at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road Dixon, California.

Donations can be made to Alzheimer’s, diabetes and hospice organizations in honor of Peter C. Alway.

Rest in peace, Peter. We love you. You will be missed.
