May 13, 2021. Beloved husband of 54 years to Nanci Swalm; loving father of Kimberly (Jesse) Steele, and Kari (Daniel) Palermo; dear grandpa of Emily and Joseph Steele, Annaliese, Kira, Sarah, and Leah Palermo; son of the late Francis and Charlotte Swalm; brother of Debby (John) Scheider, Sally Hansen (Robert Bender), and the late John Swalm; also survived by nieces and nephews. Friends may call Sunday 1-3 PM at the DENGLER, ROBERTS, PERNA FUNERAL HOME, 8630 Transit Rd., East Amherst (1 mi. north of Maple Rd., just past Klein Rd.), where a Celebration of Chuck's Life will be held at 3 PM. He was an educator for close to fifty years. He taught science at Amherst Middle School for 39 years and continued to substitute for over a decade after retiring, mostly at Heim Middle School. Chuck instilled his love of nature and the outdoors in his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed biking, hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, and playing tennis among other activities. He was also an avid reader, often devouring books hundreds of pages in length in just a day. Flowers gratefully declined.
