Elaine Rowland

ROWLAND - Elaine G. Age 98, Educator, Conservationist, Photographer, and avid traveler, died peacefully on March 14, 2018; wife of the late Robert E. (Bob) Rowland, her husband for 66 adventurous years; mother of David (Molly) Rowland, MD; grandmother of Robin Byroads, Dana (Thomas) Morris, and Derek (Dawn) Rowland; also survived by six great-grandchildren and six nieces and nephews; predeceased by brother Clare Gilchrist. Elaine's career as an educator spanned 34 years, teaching home economics to high school students, with longest tenure at Clarence High School. Elaine and Bob were active members of the Buffalo Museum of Science Camera Club and the Adirondack Mountain Club as well as active members of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst. Throughout their careers and during retirement, they traveled the world, visiting all seven continents and sharing thousands of photographs with family, friends, and community through narrated slide shows. They also shared many musical interests, and were strong supporters of the Amherst Symphony Orchestra and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. Elaine also taught recorder classes, performing and collecting eclectic recorder musical compositions. There will be a private family memorial celebration.
