In Memory Alumni

David Schultz - Class Of 1965

David Duringer Schultz, a resident of East Aurora since 1972, died Wednesday, June 27. He was 71.

Born in Buffalo on Jan. 31, 1947 to the late Alma and Lester Schultz, Mr. Schultz was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather and longtime educator in East Aurora. He earned an undergraduate degree in political science from the University at Buffalo and a master’s degree in American studies from Bowling Green State University. He and the former Diane Obersheimer were married in 1970.

That year, Mr. Schultz began his career teaching English in East Aurora. Over the next thirty-two years, he took great pride in the generations of students he taught and the lifelong friendships he made. He worked hard to help his students understand that words matter.

Mr. Schultz used his teaching abilities beyond the English classroom. He taught college level courses to inmates at Attica Correctional Facility. He taught artists at Chautauqua Institute who were learning to paint needlepoint canvases. He retired from East Aurora High School in 2002. After retirement, as a national English and Social Studies consultant for McDougall Littell, he taught teachers across the country to use classroom texts most effectively. Most recently, he volunteered as a docent at the Roycroft campus.

Mr. Schultz is survived by his wife, Diane Lee; sons Eric Duringer (Cassandra) Schultz and Andrew Clemens (Courtney) Schultz; grandchildren Summer Grace Schultz, Andrew McQuiston Schultz, Charles Duringer Schultz, Caleb Christian Schultz, James Griffin Schultz, and brand new grandson David Stormont Schultz; sister Katherine (John) Stanson; nieces Kelly (Jamie) McMullin, Courtney (John Ed) Flynt, Kimberly (David) Galligan; and nephew John (Sarah) Stanson.

All arrangements were made by Kenneth Howe Funeral Home, 64 Maple Road, East Aurora.

A memorial service for Mr. Schultz will be held at 10 a.m. on Thurs., July 26 at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 374 Main St., East Aurora.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Mr. Schultz’s memory may be made to the East Aurora Educational Foundation, Parkdale School, 141 Girard Ave., East Aurora, NY, 14052.
