Richard W Fickhesen - Class Of 1983

Richard W. Fickhesen Jr.
September 24, 1965 ~ June 9, 2023 (age 57)

Fickhesen II, Richard William - Of the town of Amherst, entered into rest on June 9th, 2023. Son of Nancy and Richard; beloved father to his five children Madeline, Erik, Katie, Christian, and Richard and his wife Tenae; husband to his wife Adrienne; cherished brother of Gary, Lynn, and the late Dave.

Richard graduated from Amherst High School, class of 1983. From the very beginning Rick was a sociable figure, no matter what he was doing he’d always be accompanied by a cast of characters from all different walks of life. His close friends will best remember him for his thoughtful and spirited conversations on life, love, politics, and Buffalo sports teams - often had over a Coors Light and steaks on the grill.

One of his biggest joys in life was building meaningful relationships with anyone that crossed his path - coworkers, neighbors, parishioners, friends of friends. If you knew him then you have a story to tell - he was a man of many friends and few acquaintances.

Like his father, Rick was a salesman at heart and his entrepreneurial journey can best be described as one big adventure. He started a newspaper entitled “Boys Night Out” which then became a retail cigar store called Stogie Bros. He would later find his true calling as a sales professional at Supermedia where he sold yellow page ads for 10+ years. His passion for helping others later made him a trainer at the same company where he mentored and helped countless people in starting their careers.

His most recent endeavor was growing the family business Kissed By The Sun Spices and Buffalo Artisan Food Traders - a local store that worked exclusively with other small family run businesses like his own. As is the title of one of his favorite Rush songs Rick was a “Working Man”. Despite the long hours that comes with being a business owner he found great fulfillment and purpose through the relationships he built throughout his career. He was a true self made man that leaves behind a business that will continue to provide for his family for years to come.

Rick was the life of the party and he always knew how to have a good time. He enjoyed the simple things like grilling in his backyard with friends while his favorite bands like the Police, Rush, and the Cars played in the background. He loved doing laps at the aquatic center and was a Buffalo sports fan who will be rooting for his Bills and Sabers from up above.

Rick was a man of faith and sent four of his children to St. Benedicts Catholic school over a 20+ year span. He always had a relationship with God and would often attribute getting through the difficult times of his life in large part because of his faith. He was also never afraid to ascribe any successes or achievements he had in life to god.

Above all else Rick was a family man. He was a loving husband and provider for his family. No matter what the topic of conversation was, you were likely to hear about one of his kids' most recent accomplishments if you were talking to him. He would often comment on how lucky he was to have married his wife and was quick to pull out a photo of her. He passed down all his wisdom, knowledge, and ethics learned throughout his life to each and every one of his kids, all while valuing their independence.

Rick left his mark on this world and it was undoubtedly a positive one. He is now at peace and will be missed endlessly by his friends and family.
