In Memory Alumni

Anne Harding (Joyce) - Class Of 1970 VIEW PROFILE

Anne was born in Buffalo, where she spent most of her life. She and her husband Bill met at Amherst Central High School and were married for over 50 years.

An avid and lifelong supporter of her community, Anne volunteered her time and energy across a wide-range of non-profit institutions, including the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation, where she served as chairperson twice, chair of the Wagner Trust Committee, and directed a successful alumni fundraising campaign to help the district replace it’s outdated track and field facilities.

In addition to her work with the ACAF, Anne served as the president of the Board of Directors of Buffalo Prep and as past president of the Women’s Board of the Buffalo Zoo. She was also a past president of the Garret Club and the Garret Club Historic Preservation Foundation. As a former board chair of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, Anne also chaired the Buffalo & Erie County Greenway Committee as part of her role with the Conservancy. She was a former Trustee of Goodwill Industries of WNY and a former Director of Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, where she served as board secretary.

Anne served as the board secretary and chair of the governance committee for Teach for America-Buffalo until 2020, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Rainbow Lake Association in Franklin County, NY.

Anne was an Honorary Life Member of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers as well as the recipient of the Amherst Central Alumni Foundation Distinguished Alumni Award. She was awarded the Goodwill Industries Florence Conti Award of Excellence following her board service at Goodwill. Together with Bill, they have been honored to receive the Urban League Family Life Award, the Federation of Just Communities Service Award and have been the Buffalo Prep Celebration of Achievement Honorees.

Anne’s great joy, and lasting legacy, was her love of family and friends. A consummate host, everyone was always welcome in her home and she was known for her friendship, generosity and love of entertaining. She and Bill spent many happy years with dear friends and family at their other home on Rainbow Lake in the Adirondacks.

Anne is survived by her beloved husband and soulmate, Bill, her daughter Sarah (Genau), son-in-law, Eric, grandchildren Will & Alexandra, extended family, countless friends and her loving dogs. Funeral services will be private, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of the not-for-profit organizations listed above.

Anne will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was a rare combination of grace, beauty and inner strength and was the backbone of the ACHS class of 1970. Lord knows, we would have never had a decent reunion without her leadership.

Rest in Peace Anne and know that you were loved by so many of us who were privileged to know you.
