Barbara Rutecki (Weisberg) - Class Of 1973

Obituary
Barbara M. Rutecki (May 3, 1955 - January 16, 2025)
Barbara Rutecki passed peacefully in her residence in San Diego, California, due to
complications with Multiple Sclerosis. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years
Mark Weisberg, her children David Weisberg (Lynn), Gregory Weisberg (Liz) and Heather
Weisberg, and cherished grandchildren, Emeline, Joshua, and Lily. Barbara was the daughter of
the late Dr. Joseph and Mary Rutecki. Barb is survived by her siblings Paul Rutecki (Ann), Ann
Pfohl (Barry), Joseph Rutecki (Lili), Patricia Gray (James), Mary Nusall (Robert), many nieces and
nephews, as well as grand nieces and nephews.
Barb graduated from Amherst (New York) Central High School in 1973, she received her BS in
Nursing from Niagara University and her Masters in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-
Madison. She also earned her Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of
Pittsburgh. As a nurse practitioner, Barb worked in various areas of healthcare, including
Veterans and Senior health, research and treatment of HIV clinic patients, and stem cell
blood/bone marrow transplant recipients. She touched so many lives and published several
articles related to oncology and stem cell therapy. Barb was an avid runner, who completed
several marathons and she was a soccer referee in youth leagues. Barb will forever be
remembered for her strong spirit, compassionate heart, and ever-present beautiful smile.
A memorial service will be held in Barbara’s honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be sent to: University of Wisconsin Foundation, School of Nursing Annual Fund, or Giving -
University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.
