Clay Smith, age 65, of Tonawanda, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 11, 2016. Born June 23, 1951 in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Eugene and Patricia (nee Carroll) Smith. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and had been employed at Dunlop Tire Co. in the Town of Tonawanda until retiring in 2014. Clay was an avid artist and gardener and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He was the husband of Rebecca L. (nee Laskowski) Smith; father of Carrie (Thomas) Joyce of North Tonawanda; brother of Pamela Smith of Irvine, California, Neil (Connie) Smith of Dallas, Texas, Wayne Smith of Buffalo, Priscilla Smith of North Tonawanda, and Patricia (Craig) Harmsen of Springfield, Massachusetts; and grandfather of Tara and Cassidy Joyce. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM on Wednesday only at the HAMP FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 37 Adam Street at Seymour, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday at St. Francis Chapel, 71 Adam Street, Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517, are preferred by the family.
